Where the directory comes from

Hallway's conference directory grows from three streams: open data that helps bootstrap the listings, our own respectful crawling of conferences' public websites, and suggestions from the community who use the directory day to day. We are grateful to the open-data projects whose work gave the directory a running start, and we credit them here.

A community-maintained dataset of technology conferences, published under the MIT licence.

GeoNames

The city dataset behind Hallway's location features - matching conferences to cities, and cities to regions and countries - comes from GeoNames, published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.

developers.events / developers-conferences-agenda

A community-maintained list of developer conferences and their CFPs, built by Aurelie Vache and contributors, published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 licence.

We are not yet ingesting this dataset - we are crediting it ahead of time because attribution costs nothing to give early, and we would rather have it in place before we need it than scramble to add it after.

Beyond open data

Beyond these datasets, event facts are gathered directly from events' own public websites by our documented crawler - see about the Hallway bot for how it identifies itself and what it respects. Every listing, however it was sourced, is reviewed by a human before it appears in the directory.
